Obviously, I am new to VB.net. But no matter how toxic I am lately, I don't want to miss every error that I am getting and every solution that I come out with (for future reference). I hope it could be of help to some newbies too. I will update this as I go on with my project. I get this error every time I run my VB.Net project at home (in the office, it's working). I was unaware, the checkbox, Sign the ClickOnce manifests, on my project properties, was checked, when it should be unchecked. Solution: Go to Project Menu > Properties > Signing tab, there you could see the checkbox.
Error: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException was unhandled. An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) Again, this is when I am at home. My connection in the office is okay (at least as far as I know). I recently set up my SQL Server 2000 (Personal Edition, thanks to JS for the copy) and I was able to install and create my server (instance name: GREENAPPLE) and database (ISDRIS) successfully. I could use SQL Query Analyzer well and the Enterprise Manager. SQL Service Server Manager is running as well.
According to this blog, this error[53] indicates:
Did it and they all returned values. My server does exist!
Solution : What Am I missing? I did everything MSDN has told me to do, Disable firewall, enable Named Pipe/TCP/IP, etc. etc., but to no avail. I have searched a thousand of forum already and I followed every procedure that they have suggested. Weird that a lot ended successful while I ended almost-giving up (I have been attending to it for almost 24 hours!). Fortunately, I have installers for MS SQL Server 2008, I thought VB.net could have a backward incompatibility with MS SQL Server 2000 (how come my project is running in the office then?). What I did is uninstall the MS SQL Server 2000 first (you can re-install it just in case you would still need it, after you have installed the MS SQL Server 2008-- after that you could have both server running, at least that's what I am assuming right now since I have them both). Anyway, my goal was to run the project that I have been doing in the office here at home. And yup! Thank God, it's green and go again! Except for the data source in my connection string, I did not do any changes in my project's codes. Now all I need is more time to finish everything.
