I love animals. Maybe not the same way on every breed but I like most of them. Let's not talk about reptiles. Before I left for the US, there were two things that I wished I could do here. First is to be able to work in a botanical garden (well, I have had too much gardening already) and second is to be able to work in a zoo. Guess what? Just recently, I was asked to relieve, for a few Sundays, for a veterinary technician who took a few weeks off at the animal hospital. I was assigned at the grooming department and I have to feed and clean the cages of four feral cats named Bootsie, Mittens, Trixie, and Aubrey. Bootsie was adopted last week, so that leaves me three more feral cats. You can't imagine my shock when Aubrey was introduced to me. She hisses like a snake. If there are security cameras around and someone has seen me, they'd roll on the floor laughing at how I freaked out. Trixie, on the other hand, looks like an owl. She'd just stare at you and follow your every move. She has a large note outside her cage that says, CAUTION. Bootsie was nice and playful but they said never to trust a feral cat. I believe she's good though. She's just playful. She was adopted finally. And Mittens? Oh, she's my favorite. I don't believe she's feral at all. She has long nails and that's the only thing that is deadly in her, in my honest opinion. One time, when I opened her cage, I commanded her to lie down. She did, like a cat waiting to have her tummy rubbed. I believe she's a sweet cat. But because she has long, deadly, claws, I couldn't touch her with my hands. So I have this long metal rod to rub her tummy and ears, which she loves. I was even able to play some ball with her yesterday. I wish there's a way they could cut her nails but they said they have to put feral cats to sleep to do some grooming. So I guess I have to be contented playing with her with that metal rod. I pray that someone with a good heart would adopt her soon (then they could pay for her grooming). Oh well... |
