Can't Wait to Get to Heaven... Where could Emily be?
Sunday, 23 August 2009

I am currently reading Fannie Flagg's novel, Can't Wait to Get to Heaven. It's my sixth book from their bookshelf here, so far. It's a funny one. No. Make that hilarious. I haven't gone to the last page yet though. I've been reading it while waiting for Grandma in the bathroom or while waiting for her to get up from her bed. Sometimes she'd catch me laughing.

"This book is funny, Grandma. I can't help it! Have you read it?"
"Can't remember but I know I have read some of her [the author] works. It's probably Emily's book."
"Emily is your sister's name, right?"
"Yes. They got it from my grandmother's name."
"Where'd they get yours?"
"My name starts with a letter I. My grandfather's name starts with a letter I."
"Haha! Nice, just the letter I!"
"Yeah. Farfetched, huh?"
"Hahaha!I!"
"Yeah. My family is a little crazy at times."

[Couldn't help but laugh.]
"You can take the book if you like it."
"Naah. I'm reading it here."
"She won't be reading it now 'coz she's long gone. Either she's gotten in there already [pause] to heaven [pause] or hell."

That gave both of us a crack.

"Anyways, I shouldn't read this book in public, Grandma. People may think I'm crazy, laughing alone while reading it."
"Well, they might be right about it."
