The One-Mile Walk.
Tuesday, 17 February 2009

It's a beautiful day yesterday. Although the temperature was around 30 degree-F, the sun was up and shining. Normally, when we have plans, Ate Shirley and Kuya Rey would pick me up at my brother's place. Yesterday, I asked them to meet me in Park Ave., some 1 mile away from our block.

I miss brisk-walking.

So I got my brother's backpack and packed my stuff: Wallet, bonnet, gloves, Canon Powershot S3 IS (I was planning to hand it over to Ate Shirley, I have to return it to Lolo Thor now since holidays were over), and the DVD and VCD that I had to return to Bekah.

MapQuest said it's going to be a-mile walk. If you're driving, you'll get there in 3 minutes. I had no idea how far that was or how long it would take me to walk, so I got Eywankeynopi (my Panasonic A-100 mobile phone, I need it to time my brisk-walking), and Shuffy (of course, I need music while hopping!).

Well, thank God that it wasn't windy. I walked for 25 minutes. Not bad! It's not that far compared to my 45-minute brisk walking in Makati. I am now so looking forward to Spring and Summer when I could have more chance to walk or jog outside. Yep. I have always loved the outdoors.

It's the President's Day here at Uncle Sam's. A holiday. I had a lunch date with Ate Shirley and Kuya Rey. I was back home around 7pm. Some kind of lunch date, huh?! Well, we were practically all over Edison hopping from one car dealer/shop to another. Their beamer's lease will be up soon. We stopped by, first of course at BMW, then Audi, and last one was at Mercedes Benz, where Ate Shirley fell in love with one of the convertibles. Hmm.. how about a SLK McLaren, eh? Worth $500,000+ and it literally comes with a tag "DO NOT TOUCH!" which, I assume, you can put on your dashboard every time you leave your car. Hah!

Lunch was good at Penang's Restaurant (Malaysian, Thai and Indian Cuisine). The waiter was shocked when she saw our table full of food, when it was just the three of us. She's Chinese but she said people don't see that in her. It's either she's a Thai, Malaysian, or Filipino. Sometimes Filipinos would talk to her in Tagalog. She's learning a little of our language now. Like "puko" or "bugok." She meant coconut, by the way. If you meet her, remind her it's called "buko", alright?

We stopped by at Dunkin' for some coffee after driving from one car dealer to another. It's time to go back to reality.

I didn't realize that I was drinking too much coffee now until Kuya Rey commented on how tall my brewed coffee was, and it's black. I am not really into creamers. They knew me as someone who'd order a venti of hot tea at any coffee shop instead of coffee. I guess, I am a coffee-and-tea person now. I drink a mug of brewed coffee every morning and a gallon of hot green tea throughout the day. Of course, I am exaggerating on the gallon part. But yes, I think coffee and tea complete my day. It's a a habit now that I don't intend to break.

After some more stop, one at Sam Ash, to check on some guitars and dinner at Tony's Pizza/Resto (where I was introduced to a shocking huge calzone!), we bid our sweet goodbyes.

I had a pounding headache that I had to take some Tylenol and retire to bed early. It could be the too-much-laughing that has caused it, could be the walk in a cold day without any head gear on, or could be the unexpected news that I got from Lolo Thor, he's given me a gift-- the Canon Powershot S3 IS (wow! My second digital point-n-shoot camera!).

I really have no idea why my head was pounding last night. I think the day was just full of fun and little surprises that my little brain couldn't process it. Too much good details that I am trying to store inside the little boxes in my head.

I am so blessed with people with big hearts! It's hard not to be proud, though their generosity humbles me. I am grateful.

Today, gone is the pounding headache but it is my heart that is pounding now. My employer's trying to call me but he couldn't get through. I am not sure what's wrong with our phone line, I had to ask him to call again later in the afternoon.

While waiting, we could just pray.

How about another walk?
