| Remember my name. Not. |

"Did you know that she's looking for you even though she keeps on forgetting your name?" One of the night-shifters told me this morning. "Well, there was this one time that I went out then when I got back, she asked me where I have been," I think she's used to my face, eh?! "The other night she said, 'Hmmm... there's one girl that I haven't seen the whole day today.' Then I said, 'Mae? She's off today.'" The night-shifter continued, "Then she said, 'oh!'" She's sweet. Grandma is. "Grandma, are you ready to go back to bed?" I asked tonight. I was browsing on some tv deals while giving her time to ready herself for the task that we now call, getting-up. "Let's wait until..." she paused to think, "... she comes back." "Who?" I asked again. I know she's not herself tonight. She's here but she's not, if you know what I mean. "That girl..." she paused again, "...M.. A...Mae." "Mae? That's me, Grandma. I am Mae. I am here." I said. "Ah. Yes. And I am happy that you are here." She said it with the sweetest smile. She complained about some kind of heartburn or gas on her chest tonight. She kept burping hard when I put her back into bed. The Tums did not help. A few minutes later, she started throwing up. She was all right after that. "Try to get some rest now, Grandma." "Yes. I am always ready for that." She's ready for that. We all know that. ~~~~~~~ Let me do what I need to do, the things that I love to do. I don't care if people don't remember my name. I don't care if people forget who I am or whether I exist in their world or not. I would rather be forgotten than remembered because I know I am not staying. But this I shall admit, it touches my heart whenever she gives me her funny grin and I nearly cried when she said she's happy that I am here. I am happy that I am here right now. To where one is going, we don't have a place. But as long as we live, some people will always have a special place in our hearts. And it is not an opinion, it's a fact. |
