On Giving Book Reviews.
Tuesday, 10 May 2011

Writers cannot please everybody. That's a fact. But writing is an art. Meaning everyone has a different interpretation on what is written or a different point of view at that. Criticism is inevitable. It could be constructive or destructive both to the writer and the reader.

I was guilty not just once or twice of giving a review with the word "awful" and it made the person who recommended me the book feel bad. She said she'll never recommend another book to anyone again. But I told her maybe it could just be me. I was reading two books by the same author that time. For me, both books could kill (I wanted to even say in my comment that reading the books almost pushed me in buying life insurance-- seriously). They could kill you in boredom. The author has one style of writing in both books. Boredom could sometimes kill or at least it would make you wish you're dead rather than reading the stuff.

I managed to finish the first book. The second one I am trying. The first one was a real crap for me. Nonsense. The second one, it seems, is teaching me something about poetry. So I guess it'll be worth it to read it to the end. And maybe then, I could give a better review. We'll see.
