Old and New Pairs.
Friday, 11 September 2009

This pair of shoes (Nike Impax) is talking to me, saying, "You really gotta get a new pair, soon." Yep! It is smiling at me now and anyone who'd see it smiling will smile back at me and would also say, "You better get yourself a new pair, gurl."

This pair has traveled a long way. I got it from a Balikbayan box, which my Kuya Nomer's family have sent some 3 or 4 years ago. I was still in the Philippines. It came back to the U.S. in September of 2008. With me. This pair was constantly, if not always, there during the past couple of years-- witnessing in silence and giving me comfort in my journeys on its own little way.

I buy whatever would define "comfort" for me. But yes, I ended up with another Nike (Air Max 1). This time a black one with a touch of orange. Now, I have two black shoes with a touch of orange (the other one was my limited Halloween 2006 high-cut Converse). I was eyeing for a pair of Merrell but then they cost too much. Then lately I realized, a few more bucks wouldn't hurt if they would last for 4 years, right? Now I regret not buying the pair of Merrell that I saw in Manhattan. Well, my next pair would be snow boots. I need to be prepared for that season as I do a lot of commuting and walking now. I hope I'd find some clearance/sale.

It is ten more days before summer officially bids us goodbye here at Uncle Sam's. My feet are starting to feel the cold breeze of Autumn. Last night, I had to grab the chance to continue my quest for some pairs of toe socks. And these were all I got from Walmart. Grandma said they're awfully cute when she saw me wearing a pair today. I couldn't agree more. They are cute. Mon said toe socks look weird. Again, I would have to agree with him, too. They are weird in a happy way. I have always loved wearing socks and I, at times, may have an odd way of wearing them, but they do give me satisfaction. I am happy when my feet feel happy.

I had a hard time finding my next pair of rubber shoes but not as hard as finding some pairs of toe socks. Apparently, they don't have much here. Or maybe I was looking at the wrong section of the store again, just like my quest for some white T-shirts before that I ended up finding them at the Boys' Section. But really, they don't have much toe socks with good fabrics in store. Or I should check online. I would.

Socks should be composed of wicking material (from northcoastfootcare.com):
The American Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine recommends socks made with CoolMax. Coolmax fabrics use polyester fibers and are uniquely engineered with gradient fabrics to move moisture from your feet. To achieve this wicking gradient, the running shoe should have a breathable areas built into the shoe, like a nylon mesh or other type of material, which encourages wicking.
My new pairs are made of acrylic, nylon, spandex, and polyester. So far, they're good. And cute. And weird. And happy.
