My 20-Second Story and the Search for Keny's Fillers.
Friday, 27 February 2009

Almost
everything here at Uncle Sam's is controlled. That's one thing that a freewheeling person should get used to.

Here, buses and trains have schedules. In some cities, buses come every 15 minutes (like in Jersey City). In our area, they have an hour interval. I have been commuting the past couple of days and the only ride that I did not miss is the 6:32pm bus from Metuchen to our place. It's the last trip and that's one ride I should never miss.

I love to walk. I can walk for a mile in about 25 minutes. But temparature could drop to below freezing point lately. Yeah, I have thought about walking home. Maybe in summer. But first, I have to know what streets I should be taking else I will end up in a rat-maze. Metuchen is around 5 miles from home. Do the math! My brain has frozen. *wink*

What if I miss my 6:32pm ride? Calm down. Remind myself not to panic. There's a police station at my bus stop in Metuchen. I could do two things there. One:  E.T. phone home; Two: Talk to a guy in uniform and tell them that I have never experienced riding in a police mobile, I am a foreigner and I'd appreciate it if they'd give me a free ride with their strobe lights and siren on (ayus!). Kidding. If I miss my bus, you can just leave a block of cheese at the doorstep (I'm sure I'd find it!) or you can just Google me! LOL!

Yeah... E.T. phone home should be it (note to self: always keep some quarters and have a copy of people's contact numbers too!). *heh-heh*

Going back to my 20-second story (me and my attention span!)...

I told guru Ricky that I have to catch the 5:32pm bus in Metuchen yesterday. Meaning, I have to be at the PATH station in Journal Square between 4:20pm and 4:25pm and in Newark Penn Station before 4:59pm. Meaning, I have to leave the office at 4pm, which, I did. Problem was, I was 20-second late for my bus ride in J.F.Kennedy Blvd.. All I was able to do was wave goodbye to the bus (argh! I wasn't trained to cross a busy street in Manila!). I had to wait for another 15 minutes for the next bus. Because of that I ended up 8 minutes late for the 5:32pm bus in Metuchen. Good thing was, the 6:32pm bus showed up. Phew! Thank God for a-dollar hot tea at some shop, I was kept warm. The bus driver was even kind enough to drop me off to the nearest intersection in our place, although it's just a few feet away from the designated bus stop, it was a good deed. There are still nice people out there and they're not so hard to find, unlike my quest for Keny's (my notebook/organizer that was given to me by Badz and Tin as a farewell gift) fillers.

Did you know that it's been over a week now that I have been going in and out of every store that sells school/office supplies? It's not as easy as searching for a sexy lingerie, believe me! One time, even the manager (an Indian) of one shop in Metuchen have helped me search their items. I had to bring out Keny from my backpack.

"Manager, meet Keny. Keny, meet manager. Manager, Keny is hungry. What do you have here? Keny needs some fillers."

And so the Manager started a thorough search. Nothing. Keny is still hungry.

Oh well, maybe I'd try the Office Warehouse soon. I hope there's one in one of my stops. I should check Gateway Center in Newark when time permits.

No training today. I have to arrange, review my notes, and do some research. Ahh.. I am going to miss all of my rides today!
