Okay. Before you freak out or feel jumbled, read on. I flew in here with a working visa. That's just it. But yes, as I was talking about how I wuv the color green the other day, I got a green card in less than thirty minutes! I was supposed to take the written exam for my driver's license this morning as I was sure I have more than the 6-point-ID verification that MVA-- Motor Vehicle Administration (some still refers to it as DMV-- Department of Motor Vehicles) has required me to bring. United States' MVA or DMV is the equivalent organization of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) in the Philippines. Foreign passport with INS or USCIS verification and valid record of arrival/departure (form I-94): Notice of Action (form I-797 approved petition) by INS or USCIS: Social Security card: The last item has 1 point while the first two (supposedly) have 4 points each. Do the math. I should have brought with me my college diploma for extra points. Anyway, they asked me for another document or ID from the one-point documents list. The lady at the registration booth told me to apply for an ATM or a checking account and bring it to them for yet another verification. The crowd at MVA was building up when my Kuya and I left for the bank (glad that my Kuya was in the mood to go out today as he was off from work in the morning). When we got to the bank, the manager told me to present a billing statement of any utilities from where I live. So there, we went home and back in ten. And in less than thirty, I got a checking account and an ATM with a Visa logo (yey! for my PayPal!). And yes, the card is GREEN! We did not go back to the MVA office for my written exam because probably by the time that we're done at the bank, the MVA office could be swarming with people already. Kuya said we'll try again next week. Oh! But did you know that they can't put my whole name in my driver's license? "Wait... E is not my middle initial, why are you putting E as my middle initial?" Fine! Can't do anything about it if, except for my Social Security card, they don't support two (first) names here. But come on, my middle initial is not E! Dang! And my ATM card displays E (sorry grandma, your family name was chucked here). Anyway, my card is green. I am happy it's green. |
