I grew up with a lot of stories from the Bible. I remember, we had a set of colored-pages of My Bible Stories, that I believe our parents had bought for us. I remember attending Catechism at our parish church where, further, I have learned more of these Bible stories. I joined the choir, did some concerts (yes, I could utter a series of words in musical tones back then), and participated in some plays based on these Bible stories. Gone were those days-- when I could sing and when I could recite the whole Litany after the Holy Rosary (without even trying to memorize it)-- hah! You should have seen how proud my grandma was that she dragged me in every prayer brigade at the church. But I was a child. I did not find those days gratifying. But the Bible stories? I will never get bored of them. The reason why I committed myself to reading the Bible cover to cover. Last night, I came upon the story of the Plagues-- the story of Moses leading the Hebrews out of Egypt. All these times I was thinking it was only Moses who had the magic rod (well, I call it magical, all right). Tell me, was I the only kid then who never heard of Moses' brother, Aaron, and what his role was during the Plagues? Fine. It's never too late for me to know about him. Aaron’s function included the duties of speaker and implied personal dealings with the Egyptian royal court on behalf of Moses, because apparently, Moses told God that he couldn't speak well with people, while Aaron gained a name for eloquent and persuasive speech. It was Aaron's rod that initiated the first three Plagues in Egypt: the turning of the water into blood; the plague of frogs; the plague of lice. But it was the same rod (later called Moses' rod) that was used in later Plagues. How it happened, I have yet to read in the next books. Uhh.. I don't know why you're reading this, but with a foot-long carrot stick in my mouth, I am writing things to remember. |
