Building a Credit History.
Thursday, 17 November 2011

So I have been here for three years and Macy's ad other shops are still not denying me their store credit cards. Not that I need one.

When I got here I promised myself never to get a credit card. Why buy something when you don't have the money for it?

Then I have learned the huge benefit of having a credit card here. Having a good credit history would help you in your future (when you need a loan).

So I went to my bank and ask. I am a client of TD bank for 3 years now so I asked them if they can give me a credit card. One of the staff said that will be hard because I don't have a credit history yet (uhh.. That's why I am asking for one, right? So I can start building my credit history!). But they suggested one thing-- getting a secured credit card.

Here is how it works-- you open an account (for a secured credit card) and put in at least $500 then use that card and pay (I am not sure if ach payment could be used here) as if you owed the money. It's simple, right? I wish I have thought of asking them about it way before.

Now I just have to wait and see if my application for such account would be approved.
