Back to Knee.
Monday, 16 May 2011

After the back pain comes the left knee pain. Sad.

Could be a sign of old age or something from my genes. Don't laugh kiddos, if I were you, I'd listen to what I would say-- Do everything to take care of your back and joints. No, make that your whole body.

I was careless with my back when I was young. I have carried bags everyday to school and during my hiking days. Stuffs that were supposed to be carried with care. No one taught me how to carry things the proper way when I was younger. I was even proud when I could carry heavy stuffs given my being short. My body took the toll. My lower back weakened. Thank God for giving me another chance. With the help of proper strengthening exercises, yoga, and wearing a back support for almost a year, my back is good again. I know it's not really back to how it used to be but at least now I can work without wearing the back support. Again, thank God for that.

Then I started walking a few miles every day this year (nothing that a rv financing can do, of course. Of course!). Last month, my left knee started to be in pain. I think in our family we have a history of having arthritis. It could be that or I was walking with a pair of rubber shoes that weren't fitted for walking long distance. I have read somewhere, too, that walking in a concrete pavement for a long time is not good for our knees. I bought a knee support to see if it could help. It did not. The pain stayed even when I was wearing it.

I bought a pair of Merrel's walking shoes last week. Lighter than my Skecher's Shape-Ups. It felt good walking on it. But the pain remained. So again, I went to the pharmacy to check on some Dr. Scholl's Insoles and Inserts. I found one that claims it could relieve knee pain (they are called Orthotics, by the way). And they are doing wonders. Now I am happy with my new pair of walking shoes. I can even wear a pair of Orthotics for my other shoes that doesn't absorb shock.

I am not sure what's causing the pain. But I believe it's not arthritis because the pain only occurred when I was walking. Could be the combination of walking in concrete pavements and old age. I can accept that. But hey, 33 is not old; nevertheless, I have to respect and love my body. I swear never to give up on my exercises ever again. Punch me if I get lazy.
