A Recap for the Week That Was.
Sunday, 08 March 2009

"Are you getting bored here in the U.S. now, Mae?" Daddy, as we fondly call him, asked me last night when we were on our way to Metuchen for the Block Rosary Crusade, in which I answered, No.

Boredom is just a state of mind that I often ignore. I could relieve my ennui with a lot of activities. I could even beat it by sleeping over it at times.

Although there's no assurance for a real job for me yet, I am on my way to establishing my routine now (I can only pray that people will understand my situation and that they will be more patient with me). I have been traveling from one state to another, one city to another via buses and trains. There's a rumor for a job opportunity in Brooklyn and another for an on-call job. Hope is the only thing that I have right now and that's the only thing I can give. For now.

The past week was filled with activities and some good little surprises for me. I stayed in Staten Island (NY) for a few days and slept over in East Brunswick (NJ) on Friday night (where Camp Soriano is located). At least it's settled now that Saturdays and Sundays will be spent in my base camp here in South Plainfield, NJ (Camp German).

On days that I have to travel to Jersey City (NJ), Kuya Rey would drop me off to the nearest bus stop near their home and from there I would take bus S89 going to Bayonne (NJ). From 34th Street, I would walk to 32nd Street and from there I would walk some 6 or 7 blocks to Kennedy Blvd., where I would take another bus to the office. Good thing, winter is almost over. Walking is more fun now (rain rain go away...).

For now, on weekdays that I have to be in my base camp, Ate Roda or Kuya would have to drop me off to Metuchen train station for me to get to anywhere that I had to be at for the day since the last morning trip for bus #819 here is at 6:49am. On the other hand, when I am at Camp Regozo, Kuya Rey would have to drop me off and pick me up, to and from the bus stop in Staten Island.

Again, that's just for now. I have yet to learn the bus route from their house to the stop of bus S89, which will bring me to Bayonne, NJ. And I have yet to learn the other bus routes going to Jersey City. I felt stupid missing S89's last morning trip (9:03am) one time. Kuya Rey had to drive for me straight to Jersey City. Time, effort, gas, toll, and all. *sigh* (Thanks, Kuya Rey.)

At least these are a few of my baby steps to independence. I hate to admit it but I am living a life that is so much different from the life that I was used to back home as a commuter. I have yet to regain my confidence as a commuter here at Uncle Sam's. Slowly but at least I know I am getting somewhere and I am gaining a lot of experience and exposure now.

The past week could attest to that.

Monday: I received Pammy when I was fetched for Camp Regozo; Tuesday (Staten Island, NY): discussed some business models with Kuya Rey; Wednesday (Jersey City, NJ): I cut, stripped, crimped and came up with my first modular cable in the office and joined a Bible Study in Bayonne, NJ in the evening; Thursday (Jersey City, NJ): installation and configuration of some software; Friday (East Brunswick, NJ): after my training, I was off to Camp Soriano where I have finally grasped the idea of Wifi and file-sharing at home, taught a little Adobe Photoshop to Ate M, played some Wii games with Krissy (11) and Jessy (10), and painted some sea shells with the two girls and their youngest brother, Nikky; Saturday: was a trip to a factory outlet somewhere in NJ.

Jessy handed me a flower that she made out of foil wrapper and a plastic fork, Krissy gave me a fancy necklace to match my orange-and-gray attire and she bought me a small silver key from one of the stores. We were inseparable the whole time that I was with the family that she wouldn't let go of my arms when it was time for me to leave for my base camp. I almost cried. Hah-hah! Sweet kids-- Krissy, Jessy, and Nikky.

"Don't get too attached, they will not let you go," I was warned but I guess it's unnecessary. I love being with nice kids. But right, I should learn to limit spending time with the kid within me if I wanted to finish a task.

Oh well, gotta go. I still have to work on a task for Divisoria.com, try file-sharing using a WiFi connection (need to figure out how Mac and PC would work in a network), do some photo layouts for Ate M's wedding (just helping out), do my laundry and hopefully catch some Zzzs (need to generate some more brain cells!).

For these and for all... Thank You, Lord.
That was a fun, busy and blessed week.

Have to fix a whole-week schedule for me again. If I haven't replied to your emails and messages, please bear with me. It is a busy road and I have to take it. This is yet another journey for me. Keep yourself posted here.
