I had too much idle time in the office at the latter part of last week. Our UAT is almost done hence I am alone most of the time in my area, which is four times bigger than my own room in my apartment, by the way. Thanks to Tin for entertaining my non-sense text messages one time when I was trying to entertain myself. I wish I had GreenApple with me on those times. I could have done a lot from my pending tasks at home. But since I have no internet connection in the office, I tried to find ways to be entertained a little like: - Scribble on some scratch pad (I do this everytime);
- Think of anything-- such as term life insurance quote;
- Transfer from one PC to another (I have two working PC in my area), just clicking on the mouse (making sure it is still alive);
- Back to the other PC and do the same;
- Eat some crackers (I am into Graham crackers lately);
- Take a sip from my 16oz coffee;
- Munch on some peanuts (this week, I have to stop on this one-- too much uric acid!);
- Concentrate on every bite I take (chew! chew!);
- Check on my two mobile phones (even if I know not one has a new call or message);
- Sit up straight;
- Tap my feet on the floor;
- Rotate my ankles (count from one to twenty);
- Stretch my legs (count from one to twenty);
- Munch;
- Scribble. Erase. Scribble.;
- Stare at the monitor (who blinks first would be the loser)-- do I have to tell you who wins each time we do that?;
- Press the up-down-left-right keys on my keyboard;
- Chew some gum;
- Rotate my head.;
- Nibble on the wooden table (the chairs would be next!); and
- Repeat everything in random order.
Ok... except for the nibbling on the wooden table, I think I have basically done everything a bored person can do. As I told Tin, I can't cubicle-hop because by choice, I have no friends in the office. Aside from our professional connection, I never wanted more than that. And except for the friends that I have known there before I came to work for that company, I do not have any plan to gain some more. I am not a snob. I just don't want to get involved to anyone or be too attached to someone in the office. They can tag me as the weird one but never the snobbish one. I am never a snob (I am sure a lot of them could attest to that by now). Work is just work for me. No more no less. One time I was asked by someone from the marketing department: "Don't you get bored or sad in here?" With a smile, simply, I told her, "No." And then I told myself, I could have fun any time I want.
